In 1988, while exhibiting her series Juchitán at Newcastle's Side Gallery, Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide documented a day trip by the Belmont Mothers and Toddlers group from Walker, East Newcastle, to South Shields. The group shared a minibus with a similar assembly of Asian mothers and toddlers from Heaton, reflecting the area's diverse community. This work, sometimes referred to as A Mexican on Tyneside, captures the interactions and experiences of these women and children during their outing, offering insight into the everyday lives of Newcastle's residents.
