Treasurer - the AmberSide trust

The AmberSide Collection comprises 20,000+ photographs, 100 films, 10,000 slides and a unique network of 400 stories that documents and celebrates working class and marginalised lives and landscapes in North East England.

Now managed by the Amberside Trust, and established in 1968, the Collection continues to grow through creation and collection of new work and has recently relocated to the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts.

With plans to expand our work through exhibitions, screenings and educational programmes for schools, universities and the wider community we are actively seeking a new Treasurer so we can continue to develop this regionally, nationally and internationally important collection.

The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing financial planning, management and reporting with day to day management delegated to the Managing Director who is supported by the Bookkeeper. Annual accounts are prepared by our Accountant and monthly payroll is managed by our Payroll Provider. Our Financial Management Advisor also provides additional advice and guidance when needed.

Skills we are seeking in a new treasurer are:

  • A commitment to our work

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills

  • Experience of financial management ideally within the charity and/or cultural sector

However prospective Trustees with other skills and experience should also apply as we welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and are seeking to create a diverse board.

The role of Trustee is a voluntary, unpaid, non-executive role and individuals will need to commit at least ½ day per month to attend Board meetings and support the wider work of the Trust.
