Side is proud to be collaborating with the Whitley Bay Film Festival's September programme for an evening of screenings celebrating playwright Tom Hadaway.

An evening of screenings at Cullercoats Methodist Fishermen's Mission tracing the woring life of the North Shields fishing community through a double bill of Amber Films' adaptations of work by local writer Tom Hadaway.

A much loved local figure, Tom's words and lived experiences resonate through his portrayal of the authentic voices of local Shields fish quay and at sea.

The Filleting Machine - Amber Films (1981) - From the play by Tom Hadaway

Amber Films' first drama, adapted from Tom Hadaway's play of the same name. It explores the tensions within a working-class family in a North Shields fishing community at the end of the 1970s.

In Fading Light - Amber Films (1989) - Written by Tom Hadaway

Written by local writer Tom Hadaway, this feature drama explores interpersonal drama and resilience in the declining North Shields fishing industry.

About Whitley Bay Film Festival

The Whitley Bay Film Festival was set up in 2010 by Primate Productions and a small group of people with a mission to stage something extraordinary in our seaside town. From the humble origins of organising a screening of Jaws on the local beach, the Festival has gone from strength-to-strength and now delivers a celebrated annual programme of films and cultural events in unique settings.
