As part of the Farrell Centre’s current exhibition, Amber: Documenting Place, Laura Laffler - Managing Director of the AmberSide Trust - will give a talk exploring the collective’s important role in preserving Newcastle’s Quayside.

Laffler will share how members of the collective, including Graham Smith and Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen, contributed to the preservation of Newcastle’s Quayside. Through striking photographs and the 1979 film Quayside, they captured the area’s character at a pivotal moment, drawing attention to its cultural and historical value. Their work played a significant role in the campaign that led to many of the Quayside’s buildings being granted listed status.
