The project was closely associated with Amber member Peter Roberts, who had joined the collective as an animator. He had brought his short A Film with him and made Jellyfish during his early years at Amber. Though never completed, The One That Got Away remains a fascinating glimpse into Amber’s creative exploration of animation and storytelling, bridging Hadaway’s distinct voice and the visual imagination of the collective.

Some of the visual language in the concept art draws on Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen’s Byker photographs, connecting the animated work with Amber’s broader documentary archive and interest in working-class life in North East England.
