Amber Education: Primary Source Programme

The "Primary Source Programme" represents the continuation of Amber's innovative approach to education - created, developed and sustained for over a decade by longstanding Amber filmmaker and education director Bryan Dixon, with the crucial support of many talented freelance artists, educators and local partnerships with archives, museums and the business sector.

With a foundation drawn from a historic expertise in documentary film and photography production, a project delivery model has been developed, drawing wide-ranging praise from academics, educators and participants alike, for the professional approach and inclusivity of the skills-training combined with the quality of equipment, resources and the unique learning experience we provide.

Projects promote the value of documentary and deliver exceptional arts-based learning outputs in film and photography, taking inspiration from the historic work of the Amber Collective, created independently by all participating pupils, and professionally packaged by AmberEducation.

The results are publicly celebrated and cherished in the form of films and photographs, through screenings and exhibitions. Such high quality outputs, showcase an approach also praised for its value to pupils beyond the curriculum, with clear evidence of significantly elevated impacts in soft skill development, including team building, self-confidence and agency.

What also sets AmberEducation’s programme apart is its deep connection with the wider community and in particular, the way we approach and deliver inter-generational engagement and participation.
