Juvenile Jazz Bands

Juvenile Jazz Bands
A selection of photographs of children’s marching troupes, a particularly North East phenomenon, known as ‘Juvenile Jazz Bands’. Each troupe, dressed in distinctive pseudo-military uniforms complete with peaked caps, miniature busbies, etc, competes in a precision-marching competition, accompanying themselves on drums and kazoos (the reference to ‘jazz’ is rather tenuous). The present selection was photographed at the Northumberland Miners’ Gala, Bedlington, in 1974.
